Morocco Ultimate Tour – 16 Days

INTRODUCTION:

This 16-day tour includes a bit of everything that Morocco have to offer. It includes the major cities of Fez, Marrakech, Meknes and Rabat. You will learn about the history and culture of Morocco and enjoy the beauty of the Moroccan landscape and you travel from one city to the next.

What to Expect:

DAY 1:Casablanca –> Rabat

Arrival at Casablanca airport – Our driver will pick you up from the airport and time permitting, drive to Casablanca to visit the Hassan II Mosque, the largest Mosque outside Mecca. Drive to Rabat, the capital of Morocco. On the way, stop to see the Hassan Tower, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and walk the Kasbah Des Oudaia, also referred to as Kasbah Oudaya. Visit the Chellah Ruins and Gardens built by the Romans in 40AD. Overnight accommodation at your Hotel or Riad.

DAY 2:Rabat –> Assilah –> Chefchaouen

Drive to Chefchaouen, known as “The Blue City of Morocco”, which is also the main city in the Rif Mountain Region via the city of Assilah. Most of the drive will be from the coast. Explore the Spanish influenced town of Assilah, known for its annual Festival for the Art, where the walls of the Medina are painted by famous artists from all over the world. Time permitting, drive through Tangier to get a feel of the city. Continue to drive over the foothills of the Rif Mountains to Chefchaouen. Overnight accommodation at your Hotel or Riad.

DAY 3:Exploring Chefchaouen

Have breakfast at your Hotel or Riad. Explore Chefchaouen, a beautifully unique city, with blue and whitewashed buildings perched on the mountainside. Chefchaouen was once occupied by Spain, so there is a lot of Spanish influence in its architecture. Enjoy the afternoon on your own time, you can relax at your Riad, or stroll around the Medina unguided. Overnight at Hotel or Riad.

DAY 4:Chefchaouen –> Volubilis –> Meknes –> Fez

Have breakfast at your Hotel or Riad. Drive to Fez via Ouazzane, known as a spiritual capital, because it was home for many of the pillars of Sufism. Guided tour of partially excavated Berber and Roman City of Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage. Drive to Meknes, one of the four imperial cities of Morocco. Visit the Bab Mansour Gate, one of the most amazing gates in the world; the imperial Granaries and Stables the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum. Continue via the highway to Fez. Overnight at Hotel or Riad.

DAY 5:Explore Fez

Breakfast at your Hotel or Riad. Explore Fez, known as the “the Spiritual City of Morocco” and walk through the Medina and its alleys. Visit cultural and historical sites including the famous Al-Karaouine Mosque and University (the oldest in the world), the Madrasa Bou Inania, the famous Tanneries and the Nejjarine Fountain. After lunch, travel outside the Medina and see the Royal Palace gate, walk through “Mellah”, the Jewish quarter and visit the Pottery Cooperative. Drive to one of the Fortresses to experience a panoramic view of the whole Medina of Fez. Overnight at Hotel or Riad.

DAY 6:Fez –> Azrou –> Midelt –> Ziz Valley –> Merzouga

Breakfast at your Hotel or Riad. Drive to Merzouga, on the way, stop in Ifrane, referred to as “the Switzerland of Morocco.” Enjoy stunning views of the Middle Atlas and High Atlas mountain while driving. Visit the famous Cedar Forest, the largest in Morocco. Lunch in Midelt and continue journey via Ziz Valley, stopping for panoramic views along the way. Drive through the Berber villages to Erfoud, and then Rissani, the foundation of the Alaouite dynasty – the current ruling royal family in Morocco. Overnight at Hotel or Riad.

DAY 7:Merzouga –> Camel Trek to Desert Camp

Have breakfast at your Hotel or Riad. Visit the Gnawa (Gnaoua) people, originally slaves brought from West Africa and experience their music and lifestyles. See the lake of Merzouga with its bird populations and visit the souk in Rissani. Guided camel ride to explore the sand sea of Merzouga. Overnight at desert camp where you will have your dinner.

DAY 8:Merzouga –> Todgha Gorges –> Dades Gorges

Enjoy an early morning spectacular view of the sunrise in the Sahara Desert. Camel trek back to the village of Merzouga, enjoying the spectacular view of Erg Chebbi sand dunes. Breakfast at your Hotel or Riad. Drive to Dades Valley, and see the Todgha Gorges, the highest and narrowest Gorges in Morocco. After lunch, enjoy an optional hike through the fields and visit an old mud village, meet the locals and learn about the culture. Continue through Dades Valley and enjoy seeing majestic sand castles and the amazing rock formations known as “monkey toes”. Overnight accommodation at your Hotel or Riad.

DAY 9: Dades Gorges –> Rose Valley –> Ouarzazate

Have breakfast at your Hotel. Drive through the Dades Valley towards Kalaat M’Gouna and Ouarzazate, the door of the desert. Enjoy numerous opportunities to take amazing photographs during the drive. Stop in Kalaat M’Gouna, “the City of Roses”, to purchase the rosewater. Continue to Skoura and visit the Kasbah Ameridil, a well-preserved Kasbah in the area. After lunch hike within the Valley and then continue to Ouarzazate. Overnight accommodation at your Hotel or Riad.

DAY 10: Ouarzazate –> AIT Ben Haddou Kasbah –> Taroudant

Have breakfast at your Hotel or Riad. Drive to Taroudant via Taznakht, visiting Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, the largest Kasbah in Morocco and a UNESCO world heritage site. Drive to Taliouine, the capital of saffron in Morocco. Option to visit the Safran co-operative with the opportunity to meet the Berber people harvesting saffron if your visit is during the harvest. Arrive at Taroudant in the afternoon and walk within the small alleys in the Medina. Overnight accommodation at your Hotel or Riad.

DAY 11:Taroudant –> Agadir –> Essaouira

Have breakfast at your Hotel or Riad. Drive to Essaouira, travelling via Agadir, stop in Agadir, a resort city. After lunch, enjoy a short walk along the Promenade, then continue to Essaouira. The coastal road offers beautiful scenery, see herds of goats climbing the Argan trees looking for better food than they can find on the ground. After several stops along the coast, arrive in Essaouira in the afternoon. Overnight at Hotel or Riad.

DAY 12:Explore Essaouira

Have breakfast at your Hotel. Visit the Skala Fortress, see Thuya wood carved by artisans, walk through the alleys of the medina and view hundreds of handicrafts. Lunch in a Moroccan way with freshly bought seafood ‘cooked to order’. Enjoy some free time to wander around, go to the beach and enjoy time to yourselves. Essaouira is also referred to as the “City of the Wind” and it attracts surfers from all over the world. There is an annual Festival of “Gnawa music”, where many musical groups come from different parts of Africa and the world. Usually, it starts in the second week of June. Overnight at Hotel or Riad.

DAY 13:Essaouira –> Marrakech

Have breakfast at your Hotel or Riad. Enjoy some free time before leaving for Marrakech. Visit the women’s co-operative of Argan oil where they extract the oil that is famous for its culinary, cosmetic and medical properties. Enjoy the drive and scenery to Marrakech with several stops to take photographs. After dinner enjoy walking within the famous square of Jemaa el-Fna, entertained with magicians, storytellers, musicians and snake charmers. Overnight at Hotel or Riad.

DAY 14:Explore Marrakech

Have breakfast at your Hotel or Riad. Explore Marrakech “the Red City of Morocco.” Guided tour of sites of historical and cultural interest, including the Jemaa el-Fna square, the Koutoubia Mosque, the Saadian tombs, the Palace of Bahia and the Ben Youssef Koranic School. Lunch at a restaurant near the square, then in the afternoon visit the Majorelle Gardens, and have a short visit to the new city of Marrakech and the Koutoubia tower. Overnight at Hotel or Riad.

DAY 15:Explore Marrakech

Have breakfast at your Hotel or Riad. Explore Marrakech “the Red City of Morocco.” Guided tour of sites of historical and cultural interest, including the Jemaa el-Fna square, the Koutoubia Mosque, the Saadian tombs, the Palace of Bahia and the Ben Youssef Koranic School. Lunch at a restaurant near the square, then in the afternoon visit the Majorelle Gardens, and have a short visit to the new city of Marrakech and the Koutoubia tower. At your expense, the option to try a Moroccan Hammam, a cooking class or take some time to explore the city on your own. Overnight at Hotel or Riad.

DAY 16:Marrakech –> Departure

After breakfast in your Hotel or Riad, we will drive you to the airport for your departure flight. Your tour ends at the airport.
